Oxbridge Support
The Coopers Company and Coborn School is dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.
Although entry to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge is particularly competitive, at Coopers we have specialised support to help students in their applications, encouraging creative and critical thinking, and as a result our school has a long history of success with our Oxbridge applications.
This process begins in Y10, when we introduce students to these prestigious Universities, bringing speakers in to give advice and guidance for anyone thinking of applying to Oxbridge. However, it is in Y12 that aspiring students benefit from a range of Oxbridge support, comprising of 1-2-1 advice on their personal statement, residential trips, practice interviews and advice on entrance exams and how to choose a college. Beginning this process early allows our students to grasp whether these are the right Universities for them.
Key features of our Oxbridge Support
We offer extensive programme-specific sessions for our students, guidance workshops, trips to the Universities and have specialist speakers come to our school. We hold mock interviews for those students selected, held by subject specialists, external experts and members of staff in order for our students to feel well prepared and familiarised with the kind of questions that they may be asked. As a result, they can stay calm and communicate clearly in high-pressure environments.
At Coopers, we have established partnerships with Colleges at Cambridge and Oxford and over the years we have had successful students from a range of disciplines, including Physics, Biomedical Sciences, History and English. In 2025, 23% of our applicants received offers compared to the 16% national average.
Here are some of their stories:
Lucia, Biomedical Sciences 2025, Oxford
I received a lot of support throughout the entire application process from the Oxbridge Support Programme and found it really beneficial to get an external point of view when writing my personal statement. The mock interview also helped me gain confidence and improved my interview techniques going into the actual interview.
Lewis, Physics 2025, Oxford
Throughout every stage of the application process I did things I had never done before, so it was so helpful to have specific weekly advice from someone who cared about my application. I was given lots sf specific and insightful advice. I am certain I would not have received an offer without the school’s support. It was comforting to have practice interviews and to learn that they are not trying to trick you or catch you out, interviewers simple want to know how you respond under pressure.
