KS4 Curriculum
In Years 10-11 (Key Stage 4) we operate a two-week timetable with 5 lessons per day and 6 on a Wednesday, totalling 52 hours over the fortnight. The extra lesson on a Wednesday is a rotational lesson to cover the 25 lessons that would be missed with the introduction of a 2-week Autumn half term.
Over the course of the year this provides an extra 38 hours, some of which are used to deliver our new PSHE curriculum. The school only offers GCSE provision and the expectation is that most students will complete 10 full GCSEs.
In Years 10 and 11 certain subjects remain compulsory whilst others remain within the choice of the students. Compulsory GCSE subjects are:
- English language
- English literature
- Mathematics
- Science (double award)
- A Modern Foreign Language
- Religious Studies
Students can then choose from:
- Art
- Triple Science
- Business
- Computer Science
- Design and Technology
- Drama
- Food Preparation and Nutrition
- French
- Geography
- German
- History
- Media Studies
- Music
- Physical Education
- Spanish
Students also follow courses in Core PE and PSHE.
In options subjects, classes are typically taught in mixed ability groupings; however, if possible, in core subjects like English, Maths and Science setting takes places, particularly where there are differing ‘tiered’ levels of GCSE entry.
