Our library is a light and airy space which houses over 20,000 items and includes books, videos/DVD’s, Music CD’s, Story CD’s, Modern Foreign Language DVD’s/CD’s, Magazines and Journals. Newspapers delivered daily. Topic trays full of useful information. Photocopying is available at a cost of 5p A4 and 10p A3. In the adjoining Learning Zone 90 computers are available and are linked to the school network and the Internet. Pupils are allowed to use these computers for research and also to print out their work.

Library Lessons:
Year 7-9 have one English lesson per fortnight for private reading. We are linked to the Accelerated Reading programme which is a computer based assessment of reading progression. Students choose a book at their appropriate reading level and upon completion are able to take a quiz on that book. Immediate information on the reading development and vocabulary progression of that particular student is then available to the teacher. Year 7 have one information skills session per half term with the Librarian.
Oliver:
Our computerised library system is available via any computer connected to the Internet. Students can search library resources and are directed to useful web addresses that have been recommended by educational specialists.
Activities:
Lunchtime clubs take place in the library and include:- Chess Club, Board Games Club, Book Group and Amnesty International. We hold two Scholastic Book Fairs a year and have visiting authors/poets etc. Various activities take place during the period covering World Book Day. Homework Club is held from 3.15-4.40 Monday to Thursday. SEN help is also available in the library at this time.
