Key Stage 3 ICT
In years 7 to 8 pupils have 1 IT lesson a week. We follow the government guidelines and the children are taught:

  • Use of e-mail and internet (including safety rules)
  • Word Processing
  • DTP
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Power Point Presentations
  • Control
Since 2010 our year 9 pupils have been working on the OCR functional skills qualifications.

Year 10 and 11 GCSE ICT
Pupils follow the specification for EDEXCEL ICT.
60% of the marks are on the controlled assessment which consists of four activities which are worked on over 40 hours in lesson time. Each year there is a different controlled assessment brief but the tasks remain similar.
  • Searching the internet for relevant information
  • Designing and producing digital products including

  •       • an e-card
          • a logo
          • a film
  • Creating and searching a database
  • Adapting and enhancing a spreadsheet model
  • Creating charts to display on presentation software
There is a theory exam at the end of year 11 worth 40% of the marks on Living in a Digital World.

A Level ICT (AQA)
For AS there are two units. One pure theory and the other involves pupils preparing a piece of coursework and taking it into the exam to answer questions on it.
For A2 one unit is theory and the other a piece of coursework. The coursework requires pupils to use and adapt applications packages such as a spreadsheet and database.

A Level Computing (OCR)
For AS there are two units. One pure theory and the other involves pupils solving programming problems on paper under exam conditions.
For A2 one unit is theory and the other a piece of coursework which involves designing and producing a programmed solution to a problem. Pupils use Pascal to program.
