Key Stage 3 ICT
In years 7 to 9 pupils have 1 IT lesson a week. We follow the government guidelines and the children are taught:

  • Use of e-mail and internet (including safety rules)
  • Word Processing
  • DTP
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Power Point Presentations
  • Control

Year 10 and 11 GCSE ICT
Pupils follow the specification for EDEXCEL ICT.
60% coursework consisting of 4 tasks
  • Designing and producing an ID card
  • Designing and producing a database system
  • Solving a problem using a spreadsheet
  • Designing and producing a leaflet using a DTP
40% theory exam.
One section of which is based on a case study of which students are given advanced warning.
2008 case study is on Zest for Life - a gym.
2009 case study is on Pineforyou about a manufacturer of pine furniture.

AS ICT in year 12
We generally have two groups of 16 in each of year 12 and 13 although a few do stop after AS.
Year 12 have just started the AQA ICT AS
Approximately
One third coursework – units 3 and 6
Two thirds theory units 1,2,4,and 5.

AQA A Level Computing in year 13
Year 13 are currently working on A2
Units 4 and 5 are tested by theory exams.
Unit 6 is coursework and they have to design, implement and fully document a system.
The A Level course is due to change from September 2008.
