The department offers GCSE Economics with the OCR examination board and AS/A level Economics with the Edexcel board. There is a wealth of teaching experience in the department and Economics is a successful and popular option within the school. Many of our students go on to study the subject at University. In September 2008 we will be offering the new Edexcel AS/A level which will facilitate continuity within the department as the new specification has much in common with the one it is replacing.

The department is well resourced and makes extensive use of a wide variety of teaching materials and methods. There are excellent IT facilities available within the department which allows our students to make full use of up-to-date economic and financial information.

Economics is an excellent subject choice for students providing a pathway to a wide range of career and higher education destinations. A knowledge of Economics has widespread relevance to just about any job in the City of London – one of the world’s most important financial centres. Banking, Insurance, Corporate Law, Money Markets, Commodity trading to name just a few of the well paid and satisfying careers a knowledge of Economics can lead to. Economics is also relevant for retailing, general management, the public sector, central government and local government.
