Welcome to the Art Department
Mrs T Williams, Head of Art Mr V Parker Mrs K Tiffin

The Art Department consists of three experienced, well qualified, full time teachers plus two part time technicians and is led by Teresa Williams. Art and Design is taught as a discreet subject at KS3. However as members of The Expressive Arts Faculty we often work on collaborative projects with the Music and Drama Departments. We have two examination classes in both Yr 10 and 11 plus two large AS and A2 groups in the sixth form. Art and Design examination results are consistently above the national average. Art and Design is a popular option in the sixth form, with many students gaining places in top universities at both Foundation and Degree level. Students have studied Architecture, Art History, Computer Aided Design, Fashion, Fashion Promotion, Fashion Journalism, Fine Art, Graphics, Illustration, ICT and Visual Communication and Theatre Design.

We have three well equipped art studios with facilities for printing, ceramics and sculpture as well as painting and drawing. All rooms have access to ICT including PCs, digital cameras, scanners and printers. In the summer term 2007 a modern sixth form studio/exhibition space was built. The studio encourages the sixth form to work more independently and gives them a feel of Art School experience. To this end the studio has state of the art track lighting and individual work areas.

Teaching and learning has always been paramount in the department and SOW are constantly being reviewed and improved. We have an open house policy which encourages students to work in the art rooms throughout lunchtimes and after school. We are also a training department working in partnership with The London Institute each year. The department encourages a varied and exciting extra curricular programme with students participating in a range of competitions and educational visits.
