The Coopers' Company and Coborn School

Our library houses over 20,000 items for loan, this includes books, dvd’s music cd’s, story cd’s, modern foreign language dvd’s/cd’s, magazines and journals. Newspapers are delivered daily. We have recently acquired Encyclopaedia Britannica online along with Image Quest, each student may log on using their own User ID and Password. This excellent resource may also be accessed from home. 24 computers are available and are linked to the school network and the internet. Pupils are allowed to use these computers for research and also to print out their work. To encourage reading for pleasure the library participates in the ‘Bookbuzz’ reading programme from the ‘Booktrust’. Each year 7 pupil is invited to choose a free book at the beginning of the academic year.

Library Lessons

Our computerised library system is available via any computer connected to the internet. Students can research library resources and are directed to useful web addresses that have been recommended by educational specialists.

Various activities take place within the library during the school day. At lunchtime there is a weekly ‘Book Club’ which is run by the Year 13 Library Captain. The opportunity to play chess or to use any other of our board games is available upon request. After school Monday to Thursday, pupils may come and use the facilities for homework.
