Careers & Beyond CCCS

    Head of Careers

Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is an important area of the wider curriculum.
Indeed providing high-quality CEIAG complements and enriches the main/specialist curriculum. The essence of CEIAG involves furnishing pupils with knowledge and skills for life. By so doing we help develop well-rounded, informed and confident citizens.

CEIAG within the school can be distinguished in the following areas:

    • Conference Days – themed days (three a year) for each year group, using effective guest speakers and high-quality resources.
    • Thought for the Week – using tutor time to discuss topical issues, often inspired by newspaper articles, to bridge and enrich the conference days.
    • Cross-Curricular – supporting and developing CEIAG topics in the main/specialist curriculum.
    • Annual Careers Convention.
    • Two weeks Work Experience in the summer term of Year 10
    • Year 12 take part in ‘work shadowing’ at the end of the summer term.
    • Prospects Advisor.
    • Extension – year group activities that sit outside the conference days, but which develop Life Skills, e.g. Guest speakers from Industry and Commerce and Universities, Job seeker workshops for those students wanting to go out into the work place at the end of Year 13
    • A School Leaver's guide to career options 2015

    • The 100 most popular school leaver programmes 2015

    • University Degree Ideas generator

    • The ideas genarator is designed to ensure that students are aware of all university degree options available with their A Level subject choices.
    • HEAP 2016

    • HEAP 2016 is a first-stop reference for students choosing their degree courses in higher education. The resource is available on-line via a log on provided by Mrs King Head of Careers.

    Careers Events

    Careers Convention 2015

The annual Careers’ Convention was very well attended again this year. We were lucky to have the support of a great many local and City businesses, as well as so many alumni who gave up their evening to represent their professions.  Colleges of Further and Higher Education and Universities were also exhibiting and offered lots of useful advice.  The exhibitors were very impressed with how the students conducted themselves.  If you would like to help at the next event by talking to students about particular careers paths, please contact me at the school.

    Sixth Form Mock Assessment Afternoon

With the increase in tuition fees we are seeing a greater number of students leaving from school going into the ‘world of work’. To ensure the students are prepared and to maximise their employability I arranged for RSM to come in and run a ‘mock’ assessment afternoon. The Year 13 students were put through their paces and given a real feel for what they will need to do to secure that all important job offer.
